IS IT WRONG? SPORTING BOOTS IN WARMER WEATHER

I recently received a text from a friend who expressed great disdain for women who wear boots when it's warm outside. I understood his perspective but I politely disagreed- at least a little bit. I believe that it's okay to wear boots when it's a little on the warm side. It just depends on how it's done. I think it's pulled off best when people wear the boots in an effortless manner that eludes most mere, fashion mortals. Celebrities do it all the time. In order to make this look work, I think you need to keep your outfit sleek. I'm talking fitted pants and leather boots or a simple sundress and cowboy boots.

BIG BOI & THE $50,000 SHOES

These special Nike kicks were presented to Antwan Patton, aka Big Boi, of Outkast, by Laced Up tennis shoe boutique and Prriya and Chintans Couture. You may be wondering why they're worth 50k. Well my friends, the Nike logo is outlined with 13 carats of champagne diamonds. Hence the incredibly steep price tag. I don't think Big Boi is going to actually wear the shoes. Though he did mention that he may break 'em in on a video when the new album drops in '08. Can't wait!

WHAT I'M WEARING: HANGING OUT WITH FRIENDS

It's a fact. If you throw a get together and have delicious treats, I will be there. And this outfit reflects my standard hanging out dress code quite accurately. It's comprised of cheap jeans ($10 by Bitten), a t-shirt (purchased in the late 90s for less than $10), a cardigan ($30 from H&M), and a pair of heels ($50 by Nine West). Add a designer bag and I'm dressed perfectly for a night with good food and great friends.

You've heard the phrase, "There's nothing like a well-dressed man." This guy is the epitome of that statement. I love the sweater under this tailored suit!

THE SHOPPER'S HOLIDAY: BLACK FRIDAY

It's here! It's Black Friday, also known as the biggest shopping day of the year! Some stores like Kohl's and JC Penny's open in less than two hours. Other stores, like Target, are sticking with the common 6 am start time. I checked the holiday sale ads online and Circuit City has some great dvd and cd deals. And you may want to check out Macy's web busters going on right now. I had to wait a few seconds to connect to the site because it was so crowded!

Anyhoo, there are sales on top of sales so there's sure to be something out there for you if you're looking. If you want to see all of this year's deals, go to this link for a quick rundown and quite possibly a big time saver.

FASHION TIPS: WHAT TO WEAR TO THANKSGIVING DINNER

Trying to create an outfit for Thanksgiving that will accommodate three different dinner parties? Sounds impossible, right? But don't fret. Finding THE right thing to wear on a day known for stuffing yourself senseless doesn't have to be complicated. Here are some suggestions to get your ideas flowing:

Look for shirts that provide some much needed space for that second plate of turkey and dressing. I found these great options from Banana Republic.

And this silk top is on sale for $29.99. Add a cute blazer if you need to dress it up.

And if you really want an easy solution to holiday dressing, wear a dress. This roomy shift dress is $59.99. When selecting a dress to wear to dinner, remember to stay away from anything too tight if you plan on hitting the dessert table once or twice.

SHOPPING WISH LIST: THINGS I'M WILLING TO STARVE FOR

Do I need another DVF wrap dress? Probably not. But is that ever really the point? The print on this Diane Von Furstenburg dress is a classic. I can envision myself wearing this beauty for a long time. And at $465, I'd have to in order to get my money's worth. But trust me, this investment piece goes from the office, to dinner, to a party with minimal effort so it will pay for itself within months. Or at least that's the story I'm going to tell.

NEW COLLECTION AT TARGET: ERIN FETHERSTON

On Sunday, November 18th, Target will launch its ninth designer in the GO International collection. This time, the designer looks at regular people prices will come from Erin Fetherston, whose American background is cleverly overshadowed by her definitive French flair. You can view her collections here. I love the looks for Spring 2008! But after perusing several examples of her work, I think her collection for Target is a bit of a letdown. I don't know. Maybe I'm just cranky this week, but I wanted a little more of Erin's chee chee, frou frou style to grace the racks of my local Target. All of the dresses are fun and cute (though I could have done without the bunny print). And I definitely like the gray, chunky sweater. (And how many of those have we seen lately.) Well now that I think about it, I guess I do like this line. Just not enough be at Target on Sunday morning when the doors swing open.

STYLE TIPS: WEARING ALL BLACK

If you know me, then you know I don't do all black. Require me to don the all black ensemble, and I'm sure to show up with festive, green shoes or a bright pink handbag. Wearing everyone's favorite color is usually just too plain for my tastes. But this outfit, worn by my oh so stylish friend, shows the monochromatic look done right. The wide, leopard print belt adds a big dose of flavor. And this delicious Prada bag doesn't hurt either.

Here are my tips for wearing all black and achieving a stylish, chic look:
* Add color- thus becoming all black with a hint of color, which really is more fun
* Try animal print- like my friend shows here, a properly placed animal print accessory (think shoes, handbag, bangles) can make your outfit more interesting and less mundane
* Look for the details- if you insist on wearing ALL black, try to find garments that exhibit some special detailing like ruffles, pleats, or something that will make the black uncommon and fresh

HOLLYWOULD COLLECTION FOR TARGET: IS THIS IT?

I finally remembered to check out the Hollywould for Target shoe collection. And I must admit, I was completely underwhelmed. I've been known to gush over designer's discounted collections, especially anyone who collaborates with Target. And I love the Hollywould brand. But the shoes I saw on the Target racks were boring and frankly, they looked cheesy to me. This lace shoe is supposed to be sexy but this one left me wanting so much more. I don't know. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I do expect chic and fashion forward from an innovator like Hollywould. And unfortunately, this Target line doesn't have it.

I did find this cute clutch bag on the Target.com for $19.99. Wonderful! Something I can actually appreciate from this collection.

MEN WITH STYLE: CASUAL COOL

I love it when guys do casual without looking young and sloppy. This retro style jacket looks sleek with the two-toned shoes. Remember K.I.S.S.? I've changed it a bit to keep it simple, sweetie. And that's why this outfit works for me. Basic jeans, a jacket, and nice shoes are the key pieces in this casual, cool look. Sweet and simple.
