If you're like me, shopping for shorts is a painful experience that can be easily equated to getting your teeth cleaned or doing 10 loads of laundry. But with temperatures already topping 96 degrees, shorts are really a necessary evil for summer. So how do you go about buying them?
- Mid-length shorts are flattering on most people. Pick a pair that's streamlined in a basic color. Be sure that they hit in the mid-thigh area for maximum flattery. I found several affordable pairs at Target.
- If you're bigger on the bottom, stay away from bold prints that will draw more attention to your behind and make it look freakishly larger than it really is.
- Try on several pairs and styles before you buy anything. I know many people don't like to try on clothes at the store but shorts can be a tricky purchase and trying them on first can reduce some of the frustration.

Nice, ahem, model:-) Personally I detest tissue fabrics. I think a heavier khaki (fabric not color), denim or cotton always add structure as well as support. I tend to wear my shorts on the short side, but I have also recently become a fan of walking shorts as well. I think the ones that hit right above or on the knee are the most flattering. Also look for generous leg room so you aren't losing feeling in your legs from too small openings.

You might be on to something Mo. Those tissue fabrics really aren't doing anyone any favors. I recently purchased a shorter pair of shorts. Of course I'll post a pic and you'll have to let me know what you think.

Great tips! I definitely agree with the notes about side pockets and tissue fabrics.
I'd also like to add my support to the walking/Bermuda shorts suggestion. A few of my favorite pairs of shorts hit just above the knee and are comfortable, cool and cute. I live in Texas, so for most of the year, I can wear this kind of shorts. I can dress them down with casual sandals or sneakers and a tank, or dress them up with wedges and a tailored shirt.
I used to hate shorts, but now that I've discovered this style, I practically live in them!
