WhatWentWrong - Pantyhose + Open-Toe Shoes = A Bad Idea

I know you can't really see the toes clearly sticking out of these peep-toe shoes but that's because this lady decided that it was a good idea to put on pantyhose too. And apparently she's not the only one. Recently a friend told me that she was seeing a ton of women at work wearing pantyhose with sandals. Why, people, why?

If you're going for that old lady look, then feel free to slap on a pair of Hanes control top, nude hose with your summer footwear. Just know that there is nothing fashionable about this look. Period.

Can I just ask what the hell is the point of wearing hot, slippery pantyhose with open-toed shoes? Just go get your damn toes done ladies! If you feel like your legs overall don't look stellar, exfoliate, rub on baby oil and sit outside in the sun for a while....yes we women of color can also even up our skin tone and cover some scars and/or imperfections with a litle sun as well. Don't be Vemla from Mamma's Family...

Ew Stacie, that's a tough predicament to be in. You see your boss looking a hot mess everyday but you can't really tell her. That's career suicide! Maybe you could casually mention that if she didn't wear the stockings, she wouldn't get the holes. :o)

Girl I started to but she was complaining about it to my co-worker and before I could chime in and suggest that she is not supposed to wear panty hose with open toes, she had walked out the door. Instead I said it to my co-worker and scolded her for not telling her, lol!

It all depends on the look. Older women wear dark cheap hose. This looks much less attractive and more as a way of hiding things.

But Ladies, please understand this. I'm a writer and I spend lots of time watching people and how they interact.
I was in the airport a few months back and watched two women waiting for their flight while sitting at a coffee bar. Both were dressed in business skirts and blazers.
One, a blonde, had high heeled sandals on and no hose, the other, a brunette, had simple black 3 inch pumps and nude hose.
As I watched, the reaction among the men was striking.
Even though the young blond woman looked more attractive overall, this is just an observation mind you, the brunette was talked to more directly, and looked at much more often.
You could see the men continuously glancing at her legs as they conversed with them both.

The correct stockings and pantyhose with any outfit, have a great way of finishing the look for a woman. They simply say, classy. They have their place in dress and attire, just like your favorite top, shorts, and flip flops.

What can I say... the reaction speaks for itself.

Randal, while I appreciate the detailed comment, there is no way that you can convince me that women are more attractive in pantyhose. Pantyhose suck! There's no "classy" way to put it. They are annoying, hot, and perpetual money drains since you'll usually rip a pair after wearing them once. I love looking sexy for my man but thank goodness no man has ever requested that I wear pantyhose. Cause if it's between April and October, I'll have to tell him no way. It's just too blipping hot!!!

I like both looks. The pantyhose is erotic for men, always has been always will be. The bare look is raved by women because it is an excuse for not having to wear them. Lets face it. A good pedi and sexy sandals looks better than hose and pumps. I must add that there is alot of women who have no business wearing open anything. I don't consider peep toes as sandals. I like peep toes and open toe hose to show the pedi. I think it is time for women to put the pantyhose back on when wearing pumps or slingbacks.

i don't believe this commentator has never been to europe since hosiery of all types (dark, glossy, matte, opaque, colored, and esp. nude and skin colored) are always readily seen here on young, fashionable individuals ....and considering that much of the high end fashion originates from here in the first place, i'd say that STYLnosh is just another opinion with a web page shouting about things contrary to the wider reality.
if hosiery were popular again in the States, like they are in the rest of the world, no doubt she would suddenly love them once more and question why on earth had she ever hated them.

k, thanks so much for the personal assessment. You are correct about one thing, I haven't been to Europe yet. But I think you missed one very important detail. I wrote about pantyhose and open-toe shoes not tights. There is a distinction between the two since wearing tights with open-toe shoes can be rather fashionable. While wearing pantyhose in the same scenario just looks geriatric. So sorry, while I do follow fashion trends, I doubt I'll ever be jumping on the "old lady look" bandwagon. And that of course, is just my opinion.

I've got to tell you, I don't know why but the pantyhose/open toe shoe works for me. I'm a guy and I feel that there is something about pantyhose that excites me. If I see a woman wearing open-toed shoes with no pantyhose and another that is wearing pantyhose...I'm staring at the one with pantyhose. Guys really do think it is hot and if you wear stockings...even better! Ladies PLEASE,PLEASE WEAR STOCKINGS AND PANTYHOSE! Didn't mean to shout.

Jim, I've heard several other men share your sentiment regarding women being MORE attractive in pantyhose. I don't know, Jim. Pantyhose have their place but July-September is just not it! lol It's hot alright. Sweat between your butt and thighs hot. Which is not attractive when it's time to peel those sweaty pantyhose off. It is like looking at a woman with big boobs and wondering what they look like outside the bra. I guess I'm just a courious person...but I really do like what I see. It is so unfortunate that most women consciously don't know the allure of their feet (particularly covered in nylon). When a woman buys those "sexy" shoes or when she wears those "sexy" stiletto pumps to match a sexy dress-there is a heightened sensual aspect that women recognize. Hence the word "sexy". I just don't think that they recognize that a man would oversexualize the exposure of their toes (particularly in nylon) in open toed pumps-but we do (like breasts). Soooo, two things ladies: 1. More men are looking at your feet-especially in pantyhose-with smiles on their faces, with their imagination running wild!!! and 2. Unlike a man who enjoys large breasts-I highly doubt that your breasts will be as attractive as "your feet" in pantyhose when your in your sixties-because your feet won't sag :) Hey, sixty year olds have suckable toes too!

That's what I'm talking about ...If a woman wiyh big boobs takes her bra off her boobs may hang down to her knees. But a woman with nice legs and nice feet(clad in pantyhose/stockings)is worth it. With wearing pantyhose, it's a matter of having a 'finished' look. Your legs and your outfit compliment each other, especially important with formal dress. If you're wearing shorts or casual wear, forget the panty hose. Otherwise, wear the panty hose.
