Last week I commented on Rihanna's fantastic flavor with her ability to mix and match her edgy style with a girly twist. This post prompted a question from faithful STYLEnosh reader Mo. She wanted to know how to translate the girly, edgy fun of the stylish pop star into something wearable for 30 somethings. It's a great question. And it's surprisingly easy to do.
The first thing to keep in mind is finding the appropriate style inspiration for you. As much as I love Rihanna's funky style, I'm just beyond the point where I'm going to sport neon nail polish. But I think a more compatible rocker icon for the 30 plus crowd would be Gwen Stefani. Gwen's look is chic, edgy, and trendsetting. You can really see these elements in her L.A.M.B. line. This striped dress paired with booties or tights and peep-toe pumps is the perfect example of edgy chic. It's fashionable without being predictable.
After you discover your inspiration, take some chances with your own look. Often we find ourselves trapped in a fashion rut. We wear the same pants with the same top. And we easily gravitate to the same colors. (How many time a week do you wear black?) I've said this repeatedly but adding color to your wardrobe is a wonderful way to make it new and fresh. Experiment with mixing colors and prints, think color combinations like purple with gray or plaids with stripes. It's a great way to make your look edgy and fresh without looking like your trying too hard. Or if you want a simple way to incorporate that rocker style into your look, pick up a handbag with some hardware. Nothing says edgy like studs and grommets.
How do you mix youthful elements into your grown up wardrobe?

So Sorry I forgot to write yesterday!
Thanks SO much for the recommendations, I'll try to take pics when I get it right!
