As many of you know, I love trying to pack everything I need for a trip in as few bags as possible. And this holiday season, I managed to outdo myself. In this picture, I have clothes, accessories, shoes, books, journals, and my laptop all ready to be packed for my 7-day trip. And I packed all of this in one large black suitcase. In order to get the maximum wear out of my travel wardrobe, I selected items that can be used in multiple ways.
There's jeans, of course, that can be dressed up or down. And I also included a pair of pants, a skirt, and a strapless dress. The dress is meant for summer but paired with a sweater and some warm tights, it easily works for cold winter days too.
We tend to stuff our luggage with "just in case" items, thinking that we better take an extra pair of pants or shoes "just in case" we need a different look during our trip. But a little bit of planning can provide you with many looks from your key pieces. Try laying everything you're thinking about packing on your bed and then create different ways to wear those items. For instance, maybe that black turtleneck can be worn by itself with jeans one day and then add a long sweater over it on another day for a completely different outfit.
Having a concise travel wardrobe will not only prevent you from schlepping around with a bunch of bags, it will also reduce the amount of time it takes you to get ready during your trip. Having less stuff to sift through, means saving time for you to enjoy your family and friends this busy travel season.
Have fun! And let me know if you tried smart packing for your trip.
