I've been pouring through the fashion mags, searching for the big trends for spring 2009. The March issues are some of my favorite to look at. Here are the fashion trends I'm salivating over this spring.
MY FAVORITES
Boyfriend Jacket - Yes, your boyfriend's jacket is a hot trend for the season. The minute I saw this look I knew I had to find a way to incorporate it into my wardrobe. Think oversized, with a slouchy edge that exudes chic confidence. One night while searching for interesting fashion tidbits to pass on to all of you, I stumbled upon this fabo white jacket at NY & Company for $9.99! They didn't have my size but I decided to go with a 2 Tall and this picture shows how great it looks. You can find this trend at various price points and here's a version at Urban Outfitters for around $50. I tend to go for the cheaper options on trendy items that I may not wear in a year or two. Not crazy about the big blazer look? Consider this fantastic yellow boyfriend cardigan by Tommy Hilfiger.
Stripes - Nautical influences just seem to naturally go with spring. And this year is no exception. You can make a big statement with this striped dress for $79 at Banana Republic. Or you could make a small gesture with this scarf for $24.50 at Gap. Pattern mixing - Ah, the ever tricky mixing of patterns. I've been a fan of mixing it up for a while and I'm always eager to encourage others to give this style a chance. An easy way to approach this fashion notion is to pair similar colors together, while choosing patterns with a small print. If you're looking for inspiration on how to mix patterns, visit the kate spade site. The ad campaigns are amazing and full of ideas in vibrant colors. Image: Banana Republic
Espadrilles - Okay, so espadrilles sandals are nothing new. But I'm really feeling them this spring for some reason. My natural inclination is to get thee to Zappos for an endless selection of this summer staple. In the middle of my browsing, clutching my debit card ever so tightly, I slightly recalled that I may have a pair of espadrilles in my closet. Yeah, I just confirmed it. Remember these? So I'm loving the look but I can't justify a new purchase. But I can definitely look. Back to Zappos!
OTHER SPRING CONSIDERATIONS
Full skirts - Oh how I love full skirts. They are the quintessential girly piece. But alas, I must pass on my love yet again because this look just doesn't look good on my short, pear body type. Anyhoo, here's a great skirt at Forever 21 for just under $20.
Brights - Tired of the dingy hue that is winter? How about the dismal financial news that seems to permeate every moment of our lives these days? So you need a pick me up to, right? Add a bright color or two and I doubt you'll be able to prevent the corners of your mouth from gleefully turning up. These upbeat outfits at Ann Taylor show some great ways to incorporate color in your wardrobe.
Chain Bags - You may have one of these bags already in your closet. If so, pull it out! These cute little handbags are a great way to update your look with minimal effort. Check out this Hayden-Harnett for Target chain bag for under $50. And I'm sure if you wait a little bit, you can snag it for even less than that!

Nosh, Great recommendations, I am still on the fence about the boyfriend jacket as I feel (as a woman with D-cups) it doesn't work with my shape :-( Good find at NY & Co!

Hmm Mo...The D-cups are causing the same kind of consternation that my bootylicious butt tends to create. :) I definitely can see how the boyfriend jacket may not work for the larger chest. But I won't give up hope just yet. I'll see what I can find for you. :)

I've always wondered about chain bags. The classic Chanel chain bag is too ladylike for me, but the new ones are actually pretty cute!

Great point Elisa! The original chain bag, Chanel, is for a more feminine preference. I have a Loeffler Randall bag for Target that's in the same vein. (And I got it for $6!) But the new versions are bringing a little edge to them. Too bad I can't justify another purchase. ;o)
