I like the Coach signature print. Heck, I even have a duffle bag and coordinating tote for light travel. But I just can't get with the fake version. I remember the first and last fake designer bag I purchased. It was a Kate Spade knock-off from the famous "Alley" in downtown Los Angeles. I had it for a month before it ripped. I kept thinking, I would have done better to save my pennies and buy the real thing. Not to mention, I couldn't help but wonder if everyone knew my slick designer handbag was a fraud.
Here's a blog dedicated to the end of fake coach buying. While I wouldn't be committed to writing an entire blog solely on why you shouldn't buy fake Coach handbags, I definitely agree with many of the points this blogger makes. If you can't afford the real handbag, it's okay. Many of us can't. Just buy something else. Preferably something that doesn't scream, "I'm as real as an eight-dollar bill."

Great subject, especially with the controversy of Canal st in NYC and shutting down the shops in Shanghai and other asian markets. I will say this: I had a fake goach(yes with a g) in college when I couldn't afford the real thing. Like you said it ripped fairly quickly and was obviously not real. It's to the point some people can't tell real from fake anymore because they are so used to the fake kind. Honestly people hit the web and at least know what type of bag you have a fake of, or if they REALLY actually even make that bag. I mean it just gets crazy with the fakes I see, and I think it's unexcusable for grown women, with jobs, to carry fake purses. You will remember my infamous 5 coach bags for $325 at the coach outlet which means really people you can spend at least $25-50 and get a real one. Side note for Nosh, how do you feel about fashion knock offs?

Thanks for adding some insight to the debate on fake handbags. There's definitely a business component to the fakes not to mention the poor people who work in the factories making these bags. But you are right, there are plenty of ways to get a legitimate designer bag for an affordable price. As for fashion knock offs, I'm NOT a fan. I remember shopping at a national retail chain and refusing to buy a pair of sandals b/c it was a Sigerson Morrison kitten heel sandal knock off or a Marc Jacobs bag knock off. I'd rather not have the item instead of some store's or individual's poor attempt at recreating the item. I know sometimes it can be hard to tell what's a knock off and what's not. But if I know someone is deliberately trying to copy a designer, I don't buy it.
