I haven't been shopping in a really long time. I think the last thing I bought was a pair of Calvin Klein khaki pants from TJ Maxx about 4 months ago. They were only $20 so I was excited about finding such fantastic pants for so little money. One month later they were too big and quite useless. So this past weekend's search and rescue mission for some jeans, pants, etc, was like hanging out with a wild and crazy friend. You have a whirlwind of fun but afterwards, you wonder if it was all worth it.
Anyhoo, during a quick run into TJ Maxx, I uncovered a pair of Max Studio strappy, leather wedges on clearance for $39.99. Upon first glance, I thought they were just okay. Then as I walked around the rest of the day, I couldn't get those shoes off my mind. But should I go back and buy them? Let's run this potential purchase through the 'should you buy it' litmus test.

1 Is it stuck in your head? If you're thinking about a new handbag or a fabulous new dress, walk away from it. Give yourself some time in between seeing the item and buying it. If you're still thinking about it a few days later, you're probably really interested in it and not just enamored because it's the it item of the moment or simply on sale.
2 Does it fit your lifestyle? It doesn't make sense to spend money on a pair of shoes that you'll only be able to wear once or twice a year. Invest in pieces that work with current life. If you work in a corporate setting, it would be wise to select wardrobe choices that work with that major part of your life.
3 Can you wear it at least 3 different ways with stuff from your own closet? Not including jeans. You have to factor out jeans because they go with just about everything. If you buy a pair of shoes that won't work with anything you already own, then you have to spend time and money shopping for something to wear with your new find. (Note: This type of shopping pattern usually results in having a closet full of clothes that don't work together.)
Hmm...now that I think about it, I may need to make a trip back to TJ Maxx!
