If you don't agree with my no extensive matching declaration, that's okay. (You're probably donning head to toe green or blue at this very moment.)
Sorry. Didn't mean to be snarky. Well not totally. But this outfit is like an ode to the 90s. The pink sweater with the white cotton shirt underneath, untucked of course. Paired with a pink handbag and wait for it, pink, pointy-toe shoes.
Let's say it together: overkill!
Since I'm all about style improvement let's make a few suggetions to bring this outfit into the current decade.
Denim Exchange this basic pair of jeans for a darker wash. A straight leg style may work better too to eliminate the bunching on the thigh and provide a leaner look. Consider this trouser jean from Banana Republic with straighter cut through the leg and a beautifully dark wash that just begs to be worn to work.
Sweater While writing this post, I just realized that the sweater is a ribbed knit. Yikes! Next to cable knit, the ribbed look manages to be one of the most unflattering things you can put on your upper body. A sleeker, more current option can easily be found with this merino scoopneck sweater at Ann Taylor.
Woven Shirt Lose the shirt or tuck it in. Problem solved.
Shoes If you change everything else, the current shoes will work just fine.
Consider This...
I saw this cart at a store in Downtown Disney. The theme of the store is mis-matched everything for girls. The pairs of socks are all mis-matched and they come in sets of three instead of two. Genius! I loved it so much I almost bought some. (Though I'm clearly not the target market.) This message is a fantastic reminder for us adults, don't you agree?
