Every year we grapple with what to wear to all those holiday parties we're invited to. Well here are some not black dress options that won't bore you to tears. Think of this post as the anti little black dress campaign. Haven't we seen enough of them over the years?
Sequin gold jeans. Genius! You can wear a simple turtleneck or a fancy top and you'll look festive and pulled together.
This Today Show clip gives some fantastic deals for today's Cyber Monday sales. Coming off of a long holiday weekend and a day of online perusing, I envision you will not be very productive at work today. If you see a great deal, send me a tweet at @Stylenosh.
STYLEnosh Tip: If you have a favorite store or brand, check their website today for special Cyber Monday deals. Some retailers offer special sales that they don't normally give on certain items. And don't forget to visit your small local websites too.
This clip gives a few essential tips for manueving through the Black Friday season. I'm calling it a season since Black Friday deals started last week. Happy holiday shopping!
Fall is my season. I love the leaves and crisp breeze. And I adore the layering of clothes. I think it's fun to transform items that you've worn in one season and give them new life in another. You'll see several of those clothes experiencing a fall rebirth in this week's wardrobe.
MONDAY
No, I didn't cut my hair. It's just freshly twisted. I just realized that I look bigger than I actually am on this picture. It makes sense because both the jacket and skirt are too large. And clothes that are too big have the undesirable effect of making you look big too.
TUESDAY
I wore this sleeveless wrap dress many times throughout the summer. I decided to switch it up by adding the green wrap sweater on top. And surprisingly, I lot of people loved the combination.
WEDNESDAY
We had our Thanksgiving lunch at work today so I thought I'd dress up a bit. The berry jacket was a fun addition to the beige, brown, and pink checkered pants.
THURSDAY
This basic blue v-neck sweater becomes more interesting when it's paired with a plaid shirt and gray pinstripe pants. Pattern mixing rules!
I had to post a pic of this jacket. It's a Marc by Marc Jacobs short trench hanging wonderfully on the racks at Goodwill. Price? $5.96. Woo-hoo!!! Best find of the week, people!
FRIDAY
Well, looky here. Yes I did wear jeans to the office today. It was college spirit day and we were allowed (such a weird word to put here, right?) to wear our college gear or college colors. All of my school clothes from college and graduate school are faded and/or ratty looking. So I opted for a black bow-tie blouse from Target and my gold, cropped Tara Jarmon sweater. Can you say, "M-I-Z-Z-O-U!"
Holiday shopping is upon us! (I think they started playing Christmas music the day after Halloween.) And the Macy's One Day Sale is kicking off the season with morning specials today from 7 am to 1 pm. Click here for the Wow Pass that give you $10 off a $25 purchase until 1 pm today. There are so many pages of deals in the sale catalog (68 pages to be exact!), there's bound to be a gift or two for someone on your shopping list. Why not get your holiday shopping out of the way. Then you can spend the next five weeks shopping for yourself. Enjoy!
My adoration for slim cut pants that stop right at the ankle has definitely developed into a full blown obsession. And sure they're wearable for weekend typical activities like shopping and hanging out with friends. But can you wear these cute, little pants to the office? Especially an office that still requires pantyhose and long hemlines. Sounds like a new fashion challenge is born!
There are several colors, styles to choose from when it comes to this slim cut pants.
Bottom left: Nordstrom Trina Turk split hem pants $258, Bottom right: Nordstrom David Kahn jeans $179
This look is so fashionable and "right now". Okay, so the tight, super slim cut pants probably won't work for the office. Unless your work environment is creative, of course. But the top left black pair can easily be transformed for a work appropriate look. Just add a blazer and simple heels and you are work approved! Save the tight fitting, look at my bum bright red pants for the weekend.
Don't you just love fall? It's such a wonderful mix of (mostly) warm days and cool nights. Ahh, fall. My work wardrobe perfectly reflects this dichotomy. I started the week in skirts with no hosiery. And I ended the week in pants and socks. Are the warm temps gone 'til next year? I guess we'll have to see what next week brings.
Have an awesome weekend!
MONDAY
I received a lot of compliments on this simple, work outfit. A button-down shirt, a pencil skirt, and heels. That's it. I was told, "You're dressed like normal people today." That was actually my plan. Sometimes I like the minimalist look.
TUESDAY
Still rocking bare legs! The weather decided to keep pumping in the warm temps so I decided to go sans pantyhose. Again! This picture does not do these shoes justice though. These are my sparkly pumps and yes, I wore them to work. I figured "Why not?"
WEDNESDAY
Ah, one of my favorite Goodwill finds! For less than $11, I snagged the jacket and pants. A suit for around the cost of lunch. You gotta love it. I'm not a fan of the 4-button suit so I added the forest green belt to make the look more pulled together.
THURSDAY
Yes I know my head is lobbed off in this picture but I'm okay with that since my hair was a little crazier than usual that day. This outfit looks plain but I'm actually wearing pinstriped pants, a black and cream, snakeskin belt, and argyle socks. I'm a slave to pattern mixing.
FRIDAY
Even though it's my short day in the office, I thought I'd put a little effort into my Friday work outfit. Why not, I say. The weekend is here!!
The tips in the video will prevent another victim from succombing to fashion foibles. I especially recommend the part about minimizing your butt. Those heavily distressed, tight jeans are not your friend, ladies.
Mark another work week complete as we speed towards the end of year. Here's what I wore to the office all week.
Have a phenomenal weekend!
MONDAY
I thought I could sneak in this short-sleeved velveteen jacket but it was a little too toasty. And looking at this picture now, I appear to look constipated. LOL But I assure you, I was not.
TUESDAY
This kimono style jacket is one of my favorite things in my wardrobe. The shape and color make it one of those statement pieces that always makes everything else you're wearing look fantastic.
WEDNESDAY
Oh boy. There's that look again from Monday. I think my lack of sleep is starting to show on my face.
THURSDAY
It was pretty warm today so I selected another short-sleeve jacket. This time I added my leopard print scarf I found on the Target clearance rack for under $10. I tied the ends of the scarf and looped it around my neck twice to create this infinity look.
FRIDAY
Technically, I shouldn't wear this denim jacket to work but it's Friday. The last day of the week can absorb some of those fashion risks a lot better than Monday. I think it's because people are focused on the weekend and not what you're wearing. If someone does mention it, I'll just say I got cold. :-)
There's a little something for everyone at the WOW sale by Last Call by Neiman Marcus. No promo code needed. Discount is reflected at checkout. Sale good through November 8th. Can anyone say, "Holiday shopping?" I'm just saying.
I don't even know where to begin. This weekend was one of those moments in your life where you look up at the sky and say, "Thank you."
If you follow me on Twitter or if we're Facebook friends, you know I went to the highly antipicipated Kanye West and Jay-Z Watch The Throne concert on Saturday night. And boy was it a dousy. I'm a huge Kanye West fan so he was the reason I had to be at this show. His ability to extract creativity from his mind and deliver it in lyrics and beats, keeps me inspired to uncover ways to deliver my own creativity in some way people can relate to.
With that in mind I pondered for days, what am I going to wear??? I had a red sweater dress that was rather sexy since it hugged all the right places. But I wanted to enjoy myself and be able to jump up and down. I mean it's a hip hop concert so I definitely didn't want to stand still and have to pull on a dress all night. So jeans or pants were in order. But I didn't want to wear the typical blue denim or black pants. (Kanye never does typical.)
So what was my choice for the concert of the year???
I opted for purple denim and a mint green velveteen jacket. All of the accent items: cami, jewelry, and shoes are gold. Did you see the shoes??? Here's a better look at those sexy, mother woo!
This look was definitely all me. I don't wear a lot of black so color makes sense for my personal style. And of course, I didn't want to look like everyone else in standard concert wear so the colored denim was the perfect solution. I'm glad I opted for personal style, which is always a do. I mean Kanye wore a skirt/kilt during the concert so why should I play it safe?
Here I am at the end of the show. Sorry I don't have more pics but my phone died (thanks, Sprint!) before the show even started.
No worries, though. Overall, it was an amazing night. I even got to shake Kanye's hand and scream, "You're a genius!" I'm working hard to ensure that one day, he screams it back.
